Indian Head is an Ayurvedic natural healing technique created in India thousands of years ago and is often referred to as the “Mother of all Healing”. In my session I use the traditional indian setting by having you seated in an upright position with your feet firmly on the ground. Indian head massage or “Champi” is an important Indian family tradition of grooming the hair and scalp. It is combined with using aromatic oils such as coconut, sesame, olive or mustard. I love that this tradition has been kept alive by the grandmother passing to her daughter and so on right down through the generations.
WHY CHOOSE INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE?
The areas that I incorporate into my session all relate to the head, including the shoulders, neck, upper arms, hands, face, eyes, ears, head and scalp. Indian head is like a rhythmic dance that is firm yet gentle, invigorating and extremely relaxing.
Our scalps are extremely receptive to touch as there are so many nerve endings in the head.
Indian head soothes our entire central nervous system by melting away the stresses and tension we carry in our shoulders, head and face. It is so much more than a physical massage removing knots and tension it also works on an emotional level, promoting relaxation, calming the spirit and relieving stress. An element of chakra balancing incorporated in the session has a powerful effect on the whole body, bringing in balance.
Our chakras are like our energy points or channels in our body that give life and vitality. When one is out of balance it has a knock on effect on all of our chakras and sometimes can build up, spiralling to the head making us feel stressed, very much in our head and ungrounded. As part of this beautiful massage, I work on the higher chakras , of the head ( the crown chakra), the temple ( Third eye / brow chakra ) , the neck ( throat chakra) and the back ( heart chakra). When our chakras are balanced it has a powerful effect on our overall well being.
I also incorporated the Marma points. In Ayurvedic Marma points are the equivalent of acupressure and sometimes referred to as minor chakras. As part of my Authentic Indian Head techniques, I stimulate a third of these Marma points.
Indian Head massage is an experience you have to try for yourself.
An ancient proverb states:
A happy mind is medicine, no better prescription exists.”
This is so true and I have found that clients who come feeling worried, tense and stressed leave in a happier and in a peaceful calm state of mind after just one soothing Indian Head Massage.
